Captain Charles Moore

A third generation resident of Long Beach, California, Charles attended the University of California at San Diego where he majored in Chemistry and Spanish. After founding Long Beach Organic to fight urban runoff with organic community gardens, and Algalita Marine Research and Education to restore the giant kelp forests of Southern California, he launched his purpose designed, Oceanographic research vessel, Alguita, in Hobart, Tasmania in 1995.

Oceanographic Research Vessel Alguita and its Captain found their true calling in1997 on a return voyage from Hawaii. Captain Moore veered from the usual sea route and discovered a virtual garbage dump in the middle of the ocean. Ever since, Captain Moore has dedicated his time and resources to understanding and remediating the ocean’s plastic load. He has appeared on numerous television shows and documentaries, including  “Trashed,” narrated by academy award winner Jeremy Irons.  His book, Plastic Ocean, details his discovery of the so called Great Pacific Garbage Patch and what it means for our peaking civilization. Captain Moore continues to tour the globe sparking “The Great Plastics Awakening.

Katrina Sichel

Katrina is a London-born, now Brussels-based moderator and communications specialist with a degree in Modern Languages from Oxford University. As part of an eclectic career path spanning steel-trading in Africa to business development in the former Soviet States, she spent four years as co-Director of a broadcast PR company. Here she produced news packages for the BBC, Sky News, Channel 4, AP and Reuters, interviewing well-known figures from the arts, sport and political arenas. Since 2007, Katrina has been moderating events covering diverse topics and policy areas, from R&I, social affairs, development, finance and digitisation, to agriculture, environment, energy, fisheries and health. Alongside, until 2017, she managed the creation and roll-out across Europe of multimedia communications campaigns targeting the public, and EU and national stakeholders from diverse sectors. Katrina speaks fluent French, rusty Russian and a dash of German alongside her native tongue.

Mario Picazo

Mario Picazo

Mario is a UCLA PhD formed both in Atmospheric Sciences and Geography with a specialization in Climate Change and Extreme Weather. He currently serves as an adjunct professor in both the Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences and the Geography Department at UCLA. His main research interests deal with future climate scenarios and the effect they will have on crop yield in different areas of the world. He is also interested in the impact climate change is having on extreme events such as drought and wildfires.

Over the past 20 years Mario has also been actively involved with Weather and Climate in the media business. First as the Chief and on air Meteorologist for Mediaset Spain, one of the top national news network. The later part of his TV media career has taken him to work in weather and climate related TV shows and documentaries for TVE, Spain´s National Public Television Network. In the US, he has also collaborated as a Severe Weather Expert for the Weather Channel in the TV series ¨ Tornado Alley¨. He is currently a weather and climate expert for Pelmorex Media, one of the leading weather media companies in North America and Spain, with relevant weather products such as eltiempo.es, the weather network, and clima.com.

Nicola Cerantola

Nicola Cerantola

Trainer, speaker, consultant & explorer on Ecodesign, Circular Economy and Green Entrepreneurship, he is, since 2009, founder and director of Ecologing. Speaker at international level he has performed more than 100 talks and workshops.

In 2012 he created and launched the Ecocanvas model, circular upgrade of the famous Business Model Canvas to connect the circular design with the business design, currently in its 2019 version. Associate professor in international degrees and masters in several universities around the world he has have been training thousands of students, professionals and companies for more than 9 years. Mentor of final master’s degree projects and in-company training, he coordinated as Resident Mentor, in 2018, the Coworking space 51 at EOI, an online platform for the incubation of Circular Economy projects.

As external consultant for the SWITCHMED Program by SCP / RAC, UNEP and UNIDO he co-developed and published, in 2015, the Handbook & Workbook methodology for the Green Entrepreneurship in the Mena region supporting more than 1800 green entrepreneurs in the region. He collaborate also as member of the Coordination Team and capacity building facilitator.

Author and thinker, he collaborates with different organizations in social and environmental innovation projects.
