The program of technical visits is now ready

As a complement to the World Congress ISWA 2019, the organization has planned a series of technical visits whose program is now ready and can be consulted in all details on the Congress website

Four visits to the same number of local waste treatment facilities are planned, which will take place on Wednesday and Thursday, 9 and 10 October, at a price of 40 euros each.

Three of the visits cover most of the waste treatment plants that compose the Biscay waste treatment infrastructure. These plants have been built in the last two decades, under the successive Waste Management Plans, under a Public-Private Partnership scheme. Garbiker, the local (Biscay) public waste management company is a shareholder in these plants.

On Wednesday, 9 October, from 15:00 to 19:00 hours, there will be a visit to Orkonera (Ortuella) recycling plant and the Galindo (Sestao) water treatment plant, both on the left bank of the Bilbao estuary, and another visit, at the same time, to the Artigas complex (Bilbao), which includes an Environmental Interpretation Centre, composting plant and the Zabalgarbi incinerator, among other facilities.

On Thursday, the 10th, from 09:00 to 13:00, there will be another visit that includes the Boroa recycling plant, a Garbigune (domestic waste collection point) and the Koopera Centre for the recovery and reuse of textile materials.

At the same time, there will be another visit to the recently built Environmental Complex of Zubieta, San Sebastián.

In addition to the technical visits, the Organizing Committee of the World Congress ISWA 2019, has also planned a space for leisure and discovery of local culture, through an interesting social program, whose details are also available on the Congress website. All excursions will start and end at the Palacio Euskalduna, venue of the Congress.

On Sunday 6 October, a visit to San Sebastian is planned, including a panoramic visit, a walking tour of the city and a pintxos route through its most typical bars.

On Tuesday, the 8th, there will be a guided walking tour most emblematic places of Bilbao, from its old part to the modern expansion of Abandoibarra.

On Wednesday, the 9th, the same guided tour will be carried out by bicycle, always following its own route, separate from car traffic. On the same day another excursion is planned to get to know the Basque coast, including a visit to San Juan de Gaztelugatxe and the Urdaibai Biosphere Reserve, among other points of interest.

Finally, on Thursday, the 10th, an excursion has been organized to Rioja Alavesa, an area that covers some of the most important vineyards and wineries in Europe.
